Gift Acceptance Policy

Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to guide the Greater Kansas City Friends of Fisher House (GKCFFH) in accepting gifts in a manner that supports our mission while maintaining the integrity, legal compliance, and financial health of the organization.
General Policy
GKCFFH gratefully accepts donations that align with our mission of supporting military families and veterans. We reserve the right to decline any gift that may:
- Be inconsistent with our values or mission
- Impose an undue burden or obligation
- Come with unacceptable restrictions or conditions
- Expose the organization to legal or financial risk
Types of Acceptable Gifts
GKCFFH may accept the following:
- Cash & Checks: Always welcome and accepted without restriction unless specified.
- Online Donations: Accepted through our secure website platform, PayPal, Venmo, Facebook and other Board-approved applications.
- In-Kind Donations: Tangible goods or services may be accepted based on current needs and storage capacity.
- Bequests & Legacy Gifts: Gifts made through wills, trusts, or beneficiary designations are encouraged.
- Event Sponsorships: Businesses and individuals may support events via sponsorships under agreed terms.
- Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): Contributions from DAFs are accepted as long as they comply with IRS guidelines.
- Matching Gifts: GKCFFH welcomes matching contributions from employers and will provide verification as needed.
- Anonymous Donations: GKCFFH honors requests for anonymity and will maintain confidentiality in public materials and donor records.
Review of Non-Cash Gifts
Non-cash gifts (e.g., real estate, vehicles, collectibles, or other property) will be reviewed by the Board or its designated committee before acceptance. Considerations include:
- Estimated value and cost to sell or maintain
- Legal or tax implications
- Usefulness to the organization
- Any conditions attached to the gift
Donor Intent & Restrictions
GKCFFH will honor all reasonable donor restrictions provided they align with our mission. If a gift is restricted, it must be documented in writing and approved by the Board.
Acknowledgment & Stewardship
GKCFFH will issue timely receipts and acknowledgments for all charitable gifts in compliance with IRS regulations. Donor information is kept confidential unless permission is given to share.
Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed periodically by the Board to ensure it remains current with nonprofit best practices and legal standards.
